The Renaissance and the rise of a Western worldview — humanism, exploration, art and science, and the exchange of ideas.
European exploration and expanding trade networks — motivations, technologies and the encounters between societies they set in motion; include honestly that expansion had serious and unequal consequences for many peoples, at a general understanding-focused level, without graphic detail.
The meeting of Spanish and Aztec societies — both worldviews on their own terms, why their encounter unfolded as it did, and its consequences — presented factually and respectfully at an age-appropriate level.
