Alberta math runs as a sequence: each unit builds on the one before it. The week ranges below follow the school year from September; teachers vary pacing.

Weeks 1–6 · September–October

Perfect squares and square roots; estimating square roots of non-perfect squares.

Percents, Ratios & Rates

Weeks 7–12 · October–November

Percents greater than 100% and less than 1%; two-term and three-term ratios; rates and proportional reasoning.

Weeks 13–18 · November–December

Multiplying and dividing positive fractions and mixed numbers, with problem solving.

Multiplying and dividing integers concretely, pictorially and symbolically; order of operations with integers.

Linear Relations & Equations

Weeks 25–30 · February–March

Graphing and analyzing two-variable linear relations; modelling and solving multi-step linear equations.

Worth watching: linear relationships are the front door to high-school math. Comfort with "what happens to y when x grows?" matters more than speed.

Pythagorean Theorem, Surface Area & Volume

Weeks 31–36 · March–May

Modelling and applying the Pythagorean theorem; nets, surface area and volume of prisms and cylinders.

Critiquing ways data is presented; probability of independent events, including tree diagrams and tables.

The meeting of Spanish and Aztec societies — both worldviews on their own terms, why their encounter unfolded as it did, and its consequences — presented factually and respectfully at an age-appropriate level.

English & French — skills that build weekly, not units
