Alberta math runs as a sequence: each unit builds on the one before it. The week ranges below follow the school year from September; teachers vary pacing.

Positive & Negative Numbers

Weeks 1–6 · September–October

Investigating magnitude with positive and negative numbers — integers on the number line, comparing and ordering in real contexts like temperature.

Weeks 7–12 · October–November

Analyzing numbers using prime factorization and exponentiation; solving problems using standard algorithms for addition and subtraction.

Decimal Operations

Weeks 13–18 · November–December

Applying standard algorithms to multiplication and division of decimal and natural numbers, with estimation and multi-step problems.
