Alberta math runs as a sequence: each unit builds on the one before it. The week ranges below follow the school year from September; teachers vary pacing.
Analyzing quantity to 1000 — reading, representing, comparing and ordering; place value with hundreds, tens and ones.
Investigating addition and subtraction within 100 using mental strategies, personal strategies and story problems.
Worth watching: if adding still means counting every object one by one, a few minutes of practice a day builds the number facts everything else leans on.
Analyzing and explaining geometric attributes of shape — sides, vertices, faces and edges of 2D shapes and 3D objects.
Communicating length using non-standard and standard units (centimetres, metres); estimating and measuring familiar objects.
Explaining and analyzing repeating and increasing patterns in a variety of contexts, including numbers to 100.
Relating duration to time — comparing how long events take, days, weeks, months and calendars; no precise clock arithmetic.
Interpreting part-whole relationships using unit fractions (one-half, one-third, one-quarter); relating data to pictographs and bar-type representations.

Investigating properties of materials — texture, flexibility, absorbency, strength — and relating materials to their purpose.
Investigating the behaviours of light and sound — sources, shadows, reflections, vibration, pitch and volume.
Investigating Earth — covering one or more of: its landforms (mountains, plains, valleys), its bodies of water (rivers, lakes, oceans), and its relationship to the Sun as a source of light and heat.
Investigating the growth and development of plants and animals and considering their relationship to humans.
Applying creativity when designing step-by-step instructions to achieve an outcome; examining how the purpose of an investigation shapes it.

Examining the major physical regions of Canada — mountains, prairies, forests, tundra and coasts — and how people live in each.
Relating traditions and celebrations to Canada's heritage and the many communities that shape it.
Examining how trade supports communities — needs and wants, buying and selling, and how goods travel between places.
Examining the role of government in Canada — rules, services and leaders who help communities work.
Examining competencies for democratic discussion and decision making — listening, sharing ideas, voting and fair choices.
